What is a Colon Journal?

A colon journal is a journal with a slight alteration in the URL of an original journal. These journals often mimic the original by adding minor changes to the web address. For example, the original journal URL might be https://ajsonline.org, while a colon journal could have a URL like https://ajsonline-us.org.

How to Identify the Original Journal?

The URL of an original journal can be identified using the following two methods:

1. Using Scimago Journal & Country Rank

  • Enter the desired journal's name or ISSN in the search bar.
  • Click the Search button.
  • Select the journal name from the search results.
  • Look for the "Homepage" option on the journal's details page.
  • Click the homepage link.
  • This will redirect you to the original journal’s website.
By following this method, you can ensure 100% accuracy in identifying the authentic journal.

2. Using the Scopus Website

  • Click on the Sources tab.
  • Choose the appropriate search option: Title, ISSN, or Publisher.
  • Enter the information and click Find Sources.
  • Scroll down the results and locate the correct journal name.
  • Click on the journal name to view its details.
  • Scroll down to the CiteScore Tracker section.
  • Click on Documents to Date to view the titles of published research articles.
  • Google Scholar will display the correct URL of the original journal.
  • You can also click on the research article title in Google Scholar to visit the original journal’s URL.
